Please read our FAQs before posting. Rolling ny first toon today was wondering what the best dps currently.
Looking to get into groups easily. I am currently debating between Dragoon and Black Mage. As a BLM main, I highly recommend it. Sorry I'm new coming from Wow where things are more linear lol. I'm guessing good numbers with some utility would be what I'm after. WoW player here - Just pick which you like, you're asking the difference between pizza and ice cream.
Do you like melee? Go DRG. Do you like ranged? Go BLM. You can be both, and both are completely viable. Dragoon, Bard, Ninja are the big utility ones, but they hit on the lower end of the DPS scale because of that. Either way, they're pretty desirable in end game raiding. Black Mage and Samurai hit like trucks, but don't have any utility. Summoner also hits like a truck and has a little utility but summoner is arguably one of the hardest to play very well endgame wise.
Basically, this game does extremely well balance wise everything is very viable end gameso more than anything it's important for you to play the class well which can be very difficult to do for some of the classes. If you do savage and extreme drg will be more in demand because of just how many raid buffs it brings especially when paired with a physical ranged. If you're doing casual content blm can really blast away and carry a party. Tbh you can fairly easily pug savages with either though so pick whichever you're having more fun with and can perform well on.
I don't see the point of playing a job that's meta instead of one you enjoy, especially when dps is the most abundant and easily replacable role anyway But it depends with your taste at the end if you like mele, ranged or support dps. This is way too vague. Someone who nails BRD can be a hella good dps, even though it's a support dps. Melee vs range vs support, caster vs physical, if you're good at something it can be "the best" one.
First and foremost, play what you enjoy. Give the classes a spin in PoTD if you want to roughly feel them out.We all make mistakes. Really, really hurt. Save your healer a raise: keep out of AOEs and try not to cut it too close if you insist on getting one last hit in.
Which job should you choose in Final Fantasy XIV?
Nailing your combos, watching the enemy health bar burn down to nothing—it can be hypnotizing, so much so that you might rush ahead of your tank, accidentally pull an entire room, and end up with your poor lancer laid out on the floor of Satasha, the very first dungeon. Not even Satasha Hardjust Satasha.
Err on the side of caution, treat your tank like the chaperone they are, and try not to run ahead of them. This mostly only applies to mid or final boss encounters, but some dungeons necessitate burning down adds as a mechanic. Adds are basically trash mobs that show up to make your life more difficult during dungeons. You can generally ignore adds in low-level dungeons like Copperbell Mines because the final boss ends up nuked before the adds get to do anything, but killing them gets more important as you unlock higher-level dungeons.
It varies by dungeon, but some adds empower the boss if left alive too long, while others simply do too much damage to let live.
This goes hand in hand with not getting ahead of the tank. Tanks will generally try to turn the boss away from the rest of the party so that AOE attacks and tank busters - which are telegraphed attacks that will generally target tanks, with some exceptions - will pass them by.

The difference in playstyle for each is vast and finding the job that resonates with you is really important. Luckily you're able to change your job at any point in the game if you've reached the appropriate level, so you can try all of them out eventually.
This means you can play more than one, but not everyone has the time to hit level cap in all of them. With this handy guide, you can get a feel for each of the FFXIV classes and jobs, and whether they are better suited to beginners or those with several hours under their belt. Here's an overview of each job listed in order of appearance, role, and ease of use. Monk is all about a constant flow of attacks to sustain a high level of DPS. With the ability to unleash rapid flurries of kicks and punches, the Monk's at their best when flowing effortlessly through their rotation.
Once you master that, you'll feel like a damage-dealing god. Focused more on supporting the other members of your group.
The Bard uses a mix of ballads to rally the team to victory.Which Melee should you play in Final Fantasy XIV (Shadowbringers)
Unlock this role and glide around the perimeter of the battlefield flinging arrows at anything naive enough to drift within range. Ninja is one of the more exciting jobs in XIV. Weaving the hand-signs of Ten, Chi, and Jin, you can pull off devastating attacks. The myriad combat combos the Ninja has at their disposal means will prepare you for any situation. Even among the game's heaviest of hitters, few can match Black Mage. Transform yourself into a veritable turret that spits damaging destruction to anything in its path.
MP management is critical in keeping your damage above all others, but learning the rotation isn't too tricky. The challenge comes when you're moving and not casting spells: this is a real hindrance to your overall damage dealing, and can make you pretty vulnerable. Like being the star? Dragoons are the flashy job in FFXIV as they roam the battlefield with their lance in hand and make quick work of enemies with assertive attacks.
Dragoon skills slowly introduce you to the rotation and the importance of positioning. With Primals as battle pets, the Summoner commands them to sow chaos amid enemy ranks. One of the more complicated job classes to master, the Monk is a melee DPS. Borrowing from the Pugilist, the best gear for your Monk will be the same: Edengrace Knuckles and Ultimate Verethragna for arms and the Edengrace gear and accessories or the Augmented Deepshadow gear and accessories.
These gear sets will have you talking with your fists and always coming out on the winning side. Feeling like a Foxtrot? How about a Waltz? Maybe just a ranged DPS with all the right moves? Then you must be looking for a Dancer. It may not pack as much of a punch as other DPS classes, but it brings its own unique flavor to the party in the form of buffs.
Pairing it with the accessories of the same name along with the Edengrace Thathlums and Ultimate Twashtar. Is calling beasts to battle alongside you more your style? Then the Summoner class is made specifically for you! This class is all about having the ability to tame and then thrust them into battle against your enemies.
Most of them are also super cute. Both are sitting at the top at level I wanna be him! Well, good news: You can be! This class is made for plunging into the heart of the battle and dealing massive amounts of damage. The same goes for accessories, of course. Complete that with the Edengrace Spear and the Ultimate Rhongomiant and your Dragoon will be perfectly equipped to step onto the battlefield and take down any foe!
Ever want to just slash your enemies to bits while maintaining the highest level of grace and poise? Not only does this class give you the option to wear nice flowy robes that look super comfortable and the ability to wave around long ass katanas, it also comes with a brilliantly majestic attack set up. This is also a melee DPS class, so you can get up close and personal on the battlefield and leave your mark etched into the flesh of your enemies.
Equipping the Edengrace Blade or the Ultimate Honebami will give your attacks the most bang for your buck. The same can be said of the Edengrace armor and accessory sets as well as the Augmented Deepshadow armor and accessory sets. For those familiar with the Machinist, we all know that this job class had a major update with the new expansion.
Follow that up with the matching Edengrace armor set and accessories or the Augmented Deepshadow armor set and accessories as the highest level armor you can equip to your Machinist. Forever a classic job class, the Black Mage once again earns its keep as a much needed and well-rounded DPS class to have on any team. This is it. Your DPS powerhouse. Sure, you may not get a fancy book or neat-o blade to slice through opponents, but seriously, who needs those things when you can literally smite your enemies with lightning from above?!
Want to know the best way to bring the pain with your Black Mage? It all comes down to gear, of course!
The better the gear, the more effective your mage will be on the battlefield. The highest level sets that you can acquire for a black mage are currently The Edengrace Casting Set and the Augmented Deepshadow Casting set, both sitting at level The highest level weaponry you can equip your mage with is the Edengrace Rod or the Ultimate Hvergelmir, of course, the Augmented Deepshadow Scythe is only 5 levels behind them and it looks flipping cool.
No matter how you slice it as a fanboy of either DPS, you cannot really argue with this list. I am however curious why Red Mage, Ninja and Bard are not included. Great list overall. Please take time to read the Some time ago i have proposed solutions which i believe would solve all problems with MCH, but there is one problem that still persists. This is a job that's trying be two things at once: an archer I hope casters can have more ground-targeting spells, or perhaps have a separate caster class that revolves around such spells. I find a class with I been anxiously waiting for a new job that uses water spells, the element was slowly removed from everywhere and, as my favorite element, I would In Patch 5. In the Yoshi-P sanpo the other day, he made a passing comment along the lines that they're getting a lot of requests to "fix Bard", but with a lack Common wisdom seems to be that Summoner is a mess and needs work.

Not the most DPS not the easiest but at its To be perfectly honest, SMN feels more like a grind to play than it should, what with its immense rotation and lack of actual "summoner" gameplay.Alongside a raft of top-drawer story content and two new jobs, Shadowbringers has introduced a vast number of improvements to existing jobs, making many of them more effective, user-friendly, and fun to play.
Many roles have seen small tweaks to potency and skill speed, and a couple have undergone a more substantial rework, while a few of them feel like they need additional rebalancing.
Updated May 30th, by Meg Pelliccio: Final Fantasy XIV continues to thrive with its large player base, consistent content updates, and regular expansion releases. Fans have been playing the latest expansion, Shadowbringers, for a while now and so it's only natural that they start looking forward to the next and wonder what jobs it might add.
Square Enix is always careful in what roles it adds as it has to ensure that there is a balance for players, as a result, the addition of new jobs usually sees updates being made to pre-existing jobs to rebalance them. It's plausible that at least one of these will be added in the future, as XIV already features the mammets puppets that were paired with the Puppetmaster role.
Beastmaster is also a firm fan-favorite that players hope will be added, as XIV offers a whole range of new monsters that players hope to tame. Additionally, Blue Mage cannot be used to progress the main scenario, nor can retainers take on this role, but on the plus side, it does earn more experience points for battling in the open world compared to other jobs. Similar to Blue Mage from XIplayers must go around and battle specific monsters in order to learn their attacks.
While the other classes have been nicely streamlined in 5. Rather than a simple combo, the Monk uses a range of skills that can be chained together in several different orders. Despite its relatively low damage, Ninja was the golden child of the 4. However, for the skill to be effective, it needs to be used properly, which tends to elude many players. In addition, Mudra techniques require several fast inputs that are all too easy to mess up in the heat of battle.
Thankfully, in a recent live letter, the developers announced there are some adjustments coming to Ninja in a forthcoming patch. Exactly what these changes are, remains to be seen, but we know they will affect the way the Trick Attack and Mudra skills work. Something is up with the Samurai. As of ShadowbringersSamurai feels strangely weak.
Some of the new finishing moves are welcome additions, particularly against single targets, and filling the Kenki gauge is easier now. However, the new Shoha skill ties in with the Meditation mechanic, making it difficult to implement, even under the best battle conditions. Red Mage has been a fun class ever since it launched with the Stormblood expansion.
It also has some questionable utility. Previously a favorite class of any ranged DPS player who valued raid synergy, the Bards of the past combined reasonable damage output with a battalion of support skills, including self-buffs, party buffs, and enemy debuffs. Thankfully, the developers saw fit to provide the class with a significant base damage increase to make up for its drop-in utility.
